I have written a number of research articles on the firm of E.T.W.Dennis of Scarborough, as the first publisher of picture postcards in Great Britain in September 1894. It is now generally accepted that Dennis was the first GB PPC publisher and that the “older” claims to be the first (Stewart, Blum & Degen etc) , are now sidelined for lack of evidence. (Actually Blum and Degen only claimed 1895 onwards )

A new look at this “Printed in Saxony” series showing that the Newcastle and Sunderland artist drawn vignettes were exact copies of Auty of Tynemouth photographs. Many illustrations of Scottish cards from this series were shown, in the hope of finding their photographic origins. | GTW |

This was a follow up to the Oct 1999 article. The Scottish views were shown to be copied from photographs taken by G.W.Wilson. Clearly Dennis was the publisher of the “Printed in Saxony” series.
